It is a plant that is called watercress (Nasturtium officinale). Although it’s been always famous for its healing properties, this plant was somewhat forgotten. Origin of watercress comes from Eurasia area, but today it is widespread and can be found almost everywhere in the world.

It is known as one of the oldest plants and its use dates back from ancient history. Many ancient people were using it in food and treatment of health issues. The ancient Greek physician and father of medicine Hipokratcenio, recommended this plant for treatment of catarrh of the lungs, toothache, diseases of the throat, goiter and hoarseness. For the ancient Greeks, Egyptians and Romans it was known as a powerful tool to restore power.


The pharaohs of Egypt ordered slaves to drink the juice of watercress in order to maintain power and productivity. Nowadays the official international study declared this leafy green vegetable as the healthiest vegetables on the planet, and food number one.

Watercress stops and reduces the oxidative stress, and increases antioxidant effect. Watercress affect the exchange of chemical compounds in our metabolism and regulates any unbalance that is caused, which is very important for natural treatments.

To prepare the coverings of watercress leaves you need to grind and shred them so you get a soft mixture that can be placed onto the affected area. Before placing a covering clean the area with alcohol, put the mashed mixture and cover. Leave the covering from 2 to 4 hours, and after removing it wash the place and put some lubricant or cream. We use coverings from watercress for various skin impurities, especially those that come due to activity of various fungi.

Wash the leaves with water and let them stay in a salty water and vinegar. Then wash again and use them in salads. In the salad you can put chopped garlic, lemon juice, a little bit of salt and pepper and some onions if you want. Mix the ingredients and leave to stay for about three hours.
